Remotely Operated Security & Response System*
|
But since that day is unlikely to arrive soon we need to do a better job at
preventing “active shooters” from slaughtering our children.
Making teachers responsible for
taking down a shooter makes little sense to me for several reasons. First, the
more bullets ricocheting around a classroom or hallway the more likely it becomes
that innocent students and teachers become “collateral damage” during the fusillade.
Second, how will the first responders determine which gun-totin’ shooter is the
bad guy? How likely is it that a “good guy with a gun” becomes another “dead
good guy with a gun”?
It makes more sense to make the
active shooter an “outside the building guy with a gun”. In other words, make
him leave the building. Then first responders can deal with him.
One method to make that happen is
to provide every school building with several, remotely controlled, Active
Denial Acoustic Devices that project pain-inducing "deterrent" tones directly
at the active shooter to force him to vacate the building.
These systems might disorient an
active shooter long enough so that arriving first responders are able to
neutralize him and hopefully minimize the threat to our children and teachers.
Photo above, shows a current version. A variant of the system could be designed for use in schools and other public buildings.
