Now that senate Republicans have blocked the creation of a bipartisan commission to study the 9 Jan Republican-led, traitorous insurrection to overthrow the government of the United States, what is next for you, Sen. Joe Manchin III (W. Va.))?
Will you continue to be a “useful idiot” for the Republicans by not supporting the end of the filibuster?
If not, you sir and your college, Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.), will become personally responsible for enabling the continued rape of the people of the United States by the Trump Republicans.
On your shoulders, sir, rests our heritage of sacrifice and valor against oppression, Fascism, and oligarchy.
Since 1776, our ancestors shed heir blood for our American Democratic Republic under our Constitution, securing our natural rights and knowing in their heart-of-hearts that no one is above the rule of law.
Are you a man worthy of our past national heroes? The thousand who sacrificed their lives for freedom? Will you surrender our national heritage to these soulless, brainless, thugs who would cut their mother’s heart out for Donald Trump? Or, for what else? The equivalent of 30 pieces of Republican silver?
It is your soul and our nation Sen. Manchin.
Join the Democratic Party effort to end the senate filibuster.
Save our nation.
Joe Manchin comes out with jaw-dropping response to Republican obstruction Brian Tyler Cohen, 27 May 2021
The other day my friend, Zane, mentioned his annual prediction.
This time he predicted the Republicans, should Mr. Trump lose in 2020 or become unemployed prior to the election, will return to their ol’ tried and true strategy: misinformation, misdirection and obstruction.
“I predict”, prognosticated Zane, “That the Republicans will return to the days of yore by once again demanding that the federal budget be balanced and the national debt be reduced or eliminated, else the USA will become bankrupt.”
“And, if those far-left-leaning liberals (read socialists) a.k.a. the Democrats, don’t do their bidding, by eliminating or at least greatly reducing those outrageous ‘entitlements’, a.k.a. Social Security, Medicare, child support, unemployment insurance, food stamps, etc., they’ll shut down the government.”
“Why?” I asked.
“That’s the only strategy they have ever had,” he explained.
“Like I said”, Zane reiterated, “A one-trick party.”
"Cut taxes for the rich and the corporations; eliminate our (the 99.9%) meager social safety net; and, make a whole bunch of blood money for their corporate benefactors through endless wars."
Expecting something else, like Mr. Einstein said, is the definition of insanity.”
I guess we'll see, won't we? But, then, I thought, I've lived through this before.
Finally, someone has spoken the truthout loud about what
the Republican Party is today. And, while I don’t follow the guy, Bill Maher, I
admire him for speaking the truth I have long believed:
New Rule: The Republicans Are the Problem | Real Time with
Bill Maher (HBO)
Chris Wallace reminds us that only a few days ago, the Republicans
were the Obstruction Champions of all time.
Chris Wallace mocks GOP for whining over investigations:
‘They investigated Benghazi’
All Americans know that we pay more for a lot less healthcare than any other Western nation and the quality of our healthcare is rated the worst compared to other “developed” nations.*
However, as Mark Twain observed, “We have the best government that money can buy.”
Now that I’ve gotten all that off my chest, it’s still true that our universities, researchers and scientists are somehow managing to make astounding discoveries… even in the face of the outright sabotage perpetrated by a slew of maniacal, Luddite Trump appointees.
Hopefully, our universities, researchers and scientists will somehow find a way to continue their exception work when the Republican regressionists further attempt to erase all human knowledge by defunding science-related federal programs under the Trump budget.
In the meantime, despite the Republican Party's contempt for knowledge (the non-alternative "fact" kind) the rest of the world is leaping forward and not looking backward.
So, for us in the USA, I respectfully make this request of the Republican leadership... President Trump included... "Fellas Get Out of the Way!" (Please.)
Just to bring the point home... below are three recent breakthroughs from the brilliant minds of researchers located elsewhere in our world. And, a great little song, too.
Cancer researchers in the UK may have stumbled across a solution to reverse antibiotic drug resistance and stop infections like MRSA.
Experts warn we are decades behind in the race against superbugs having already exploited naturally occurring antibiotics, with the creation of new ones requiring time, money and ingenuity.
But a team of scientists at the University of Salford say they may have found a very simple way forward – even though they weren't even looking for antibiotics.
And they have created and validated several new antibiotics already – many of which are as potent, or more so, than standard antibiotics, such as amoxicillin.
"A little like Alexander Fleming, we weren't even looking for antibiotics rather researching into new compounds that might be effective against cancer stem cells," explains Michael P. Lisanti, Chair of Translational Medicine at the University's Biomedical Research Centre.
"I think we've accidentally invented a systemic way of creating new antibiotics which is simple, cheap and could be very significant in the fight against superbugs," added Dr Federica Sotgia, a co-author on the study.
The Salford group specialise in stem cells and specifically methods of inhibiting energy production in mitochondria, the "powerhouse" of cells which fuels the growth of fatal tumours.
Epigenetics between the generations: Researchers prove that we inherit more than just genes
From The Max Planck Society, Munich, Bavaria, Germany;
Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany
We are more than the sum of our genes. Epigenetic mechanisms modulated by environmental cues such as diet, disease or lifestyle take a major role in regulating the DNA by switching genes on and off. It has been long debated if epigenetic modifications accumulated throughout the entire life can cross the border of generations and be inherited to children or even grand children. Now researchers from the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg show robust evidence that not only the inherited DNA itself but also the inherited epigenetic instructions contribute in regulating gene expression in the offspring. Moreover, the new insights by the Lab of Nicola Iovino describe for the first time biological consequences of this inherited information. The study proves that mother's epigenetic memory is essential for the development and survival of the new generation.
Scientists at Monash University in Australia have found another piece of the lab-grown organ puzzle: the team has discovered that a protein called Meox1 is pivotal in promoting the growth of muscles. They came across the protein while studying zebrafish, which are ideal candidates for the research due to their rapid rate of growth and biological similarities with humans. We share 70 percent of our DNA with the species, and they have many of the same internal organs that we do.
This research is pivotal because it doesn’t just show is what the stem cells do — it shows us how. Researchers have known for quite some time that stem cells produce living tissue in the body, but up until this point we haven’t understood the mechanism behind how they do it.
As well as providing organs that will save lives, stem cells are also increasingly being recognized as an integral tool for treating — and even curing — a number debilitating diseases. Everything from blindness to paralysis to neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease have already seen breakthroughs with the help of stem cells. For the whole story, please go here.
Often, we hear that so-and-so in some faraway place really hates us.
The story goes… they hate so much because we have democracy, McDonald’s, drive SUVs or have such a high standard of living. Whatever the reason, they really, really hate us! That’s why they are anti-American or even terrorists.
Have you ever wondered who actually hates Americans the most?
Well, I have, too.
I’ve done a massive amount of research to cipher it out. And, you will be surprised because I’ve discovered something I never thought I’d find. I’ve uncovered that the people who hate Americans the most are… Americans! Yes, those very same people who proudly proclaim to be loyal Americans and steadfast defenders of the Constitution!
Amazing!
Of course, I had to extrapolate my findings by choosing from among those countless people from around the world whom we think will do us harm and only include those who have actually done or plan to do us harm. So, I concluded that only the harm-doers can be counted as the people who actually hate Americans.
The result? There is only one group… the Republicans… and only one person, in particular, President Trump… who qualify as American haters.
The proof? Well, just take a gander at the President’s budget and determine for yourself who is hurt the most.
Here are just a few highlights from Pres. Trump’s budget:
Throw 24 million struggling Americans off the health insurance rolls
Slash job training programs for the very same jobless white folks Pres. Trump claimed to represent
Cut Meals on Wheels, hurting disabled and elderly white folks Pres. Trump claimed to represent
Cut child care, hurting jobless white folks Pres. Trump claimed to represent
Cut after-school programs and learning centers for the poor, hurting jobless white folks Pres. Trump claimed to represent
Cut affordable housing and aid to the homeless, hurting jobless white folks Pres. Trump claimed to represent
“Zero out” occupational safety training and economic growth assistance in distressed communities in Appalachia and the Mississippi Delta… hurting jobless white folks Pres. Trump claimed to represent
Cut 23 of 46 long-distance Amtrak routes (mostly in rural areas) as well as Amtrak's Crescent train line, out of service since Hurricane Katrina wiped it out in late August 2005… hurting jobless white folks Pres. Trump claimed to represent*
Oh, yes, there is something more… slash every federal department budget that has anything to do with protecting Americans from the outrages of predatory capitalism and air / water pollution.
There you have it… more harm done to average Americans in one budget proffered by our own President and his Congress than could possibly be accomplished by any terrorist group in 100 years.
McConnell: GOP chances to keep Senate are 'very dicey'
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday that GOP prospects for keeping control of the Senate after the November elections are "very dicey," sounding an alarm amid mounting Republican concerns about presidential nominee Donald Trump,
Speaking to a Louisville-area civic group in his home state, McConnell said Senate Republicans were going to be "on defense" in this year's election, regardless of who led the ticket as the party's presidential candidate.
Twenty-four GOP-held seats are on the ballot this year, compared with 10 for Democrats, he noted. McConnell was promoted to majority leader two years ago when a Republican surge wrested Senate control from Democrats.
McConnell did not mention Trump as being a drag on Republican down-ballot races, but he chided Trump's campaign tactics. The Kentucky senator said he hopes Trump "settles down and follows the script."
Last night, the night the Republican candidates appeared in Detroit to “debate”, real
life was going on as usual outside the Fox Theatre. I’m not talking about the
hundreds of protesters, although they are for real, too. (I wish them Godspeed.)
I’m talking about the heroes who are out there attempting to
protect, defend and in this case save a life.
Officers of the Detroit Police Department, the Michigan
State Police and the U.S. Border Patrol, teamed to pull a distraught man from
the DetroitRiver. Together they saved this man’s
life.
Hopefully, he will now get the support he needs to overcome
whatever his problems are.
Because of these officers, this man has another shot at
life.
Thank you officers - you represent the very best of law
enforcement.
After combing reams of Wiki- leaked NSA data, I’ve finally ciphered it out. The only possible explanation for the Congressional Republicans heartless, soulless “legislative activity” is that they really are not human beings. Rather, they are a heretofore undiscovered shape shifting crocodilian species.
