It Takes a Virus to Kill Alternative Facts

Finally, an “Alternative Facts” Vaccine

I have often wondered how we would shelter ourselves from the Trumpists’ Republican Party “Alternative Facts” torrential downpour, as in the unrelenting lying, distortion, misleading, gaslighting, which they have showered upon the world since God made Little Green Apples.

Well, here is the first ray of sunshine in an otherwise dismally gray, never ending horror story, “Sorting Facts from Fiction”. And, while it’s a “ray of sunshine” it is forbiddingly sad to relate it is also riding upon COVID-19’s Death Wagon. Still, one could claim a positive from the COVID-19 pandemic - it takes a virus to kill another virus, as in the "Alternative Facts Virus".

It has taken the murderous, colossal COVIS-19 pandemic to out another equally horrendous plague – the Trumpists’ Republican Party “Alternative Facts” plague.

WASHLITE the Alternative Facts Vaccine

A nonprofit, based in Washington state, the Washington League for Increased Transparency and Ethics (WASHLITE), has brought suit against FOX News Corp. and its owner Rupert Murdoch, AT&T TV and COMCAST for “Calling Coronavirus a ‘Hoax’”.

WASHLITE is seeking an injunction, “…to prohibit the conservative-leaning outlet from ‘interfering with reasonable and necessary measures to contain the virus by publishing further false and deceptive content.’”

WASHLITE’s Arthur West, said that its members, “have run into people who still believe earlier Fox News reports that the pandemic was a hoax”.

Could it be that the god of “Truth and Justice”, in the form of the WASHLITE Alternative Facts Vaccine, has finally emerged from slumber and the end of darkness is at hand? It may be that the fragile Angle of Truth has once more found her wings and may soon soar again.

We will see what happens next as to how the Rs squash the suit so they can continue infecting truth.

Washington State Group Is 1st to Sue Fox News for Calling Coronavirus a ‘Hoax’, Ken Stone, timesofsandiego.com, 2 Apr 2020.

An obscure Washington state group has become the first in the nation to sue Fox News over its coronavirus coverage, asking a state court to keep the cable network from airing false information about the pandemic.

The 10-page complaint — filed Thursday in King County — also names as defendants Fox News Corp., owner Rupert Murdoch, AT&T TV and COMCAST.

It seeks an injunction to prohibit the conservative-leaning outlet from “interfering with reasonable and necessary measures to contain the virus by publishing further false and deceptive content.”

Reacting in a statement, Lily Fu Claffee, general counsel for FOX News Media, told Times of San Diego: “Wrong on the facts, frivolous on the law. We will defend vigorously and seek sanctions as appropriate.”

Arthur West, leader of the 3-year-old Washington League for Increased Transparency and Ethics, or WASHLITE, the plaintiff, said in a phone interview that its members have run into people who still believe earlier Fox News reports that the pandemic was a hoax.

(One board member was diagnosed with coronavirus, he said, asking the name be withheld.)

The case, filed at 12:13 p.m. Thursday, has been assigned to Judge Ken Schubert — with no hearing date set. West said the defendants haven’t yet been formally served notice of the case.

Fox News interfered with social distancing measures, West said from the state first slammed by the virus.

“That’s the real evil of this type of programming,” West said. “We believe it delayed and interfered with a prompt and adequate response to this coronavirus pandemic within the state of Washington.”

West denied that the nonprofit group (with perhaps 30 associate members) was aiming to stifle First Amendment rights.
