"Cause I'm A Man!"

I saw another for real Detroit miracle the other day. It was reported in the established media, too!

This photo story appeared in The Detroit News. It shows four black men and a black woman helping a white woman out of an overturned Jeep on the Lodge Freeway. Another photo shows the the back woman and another black lady helping the elderly white women to their car to stay warm until police and firemen arrived on the scene of the accident.

In my mind these “good Samaritan” Detroit men and women exemplified one of Detroiters' least recognized attributes - they really care about one another. Not only did these heroes risk their lives to help these ladies, they did so regardless of race. That alone, in photographic proof, is a shocking fact for many suburban Metro Detroit people.

Detroit News Reporter Daniel Mears asked one of the good Samaritans, Mr. Lance Swain, why he helped the two strangers. “Swain answered, shocked by the question, ‘Cause I'm a man!’”
